Erin Suttles is a product of Chico schools, having attended Marigold Elementary, Bidwell Jr. High, and graduating from PVHS in 1986. While at PV she served as Feature Page Editor for the school newspaper, played on the freshman softball team, was a field hockey player, a basketball cheerleader, and involved in Student Government. She chaired one of the school blood drives, increasing blood donations by 58% from the previous PV blood drive.
From a very early age, Erin had a strong desire to become a teacher. While she was a student at Marigold Elementary School, she volunteered at Loma Vista. Later as a PV student, she returned to Marigold as a student aide. During college she found herself back at Marigold, completing service hours. Her passion for education found her volunteering as a parent aide at Sierra View Elementary and Notre Dame School. She was then hired as a morning NDS teacher’s aide and afternoon CUSD para at Loma Vista. She went back to college during this time and eventually landed at Bidwell where she was a para for 9 years while balancing school, family, and work life.
In 2018, Erin’s final semester of college, Erin began her first year of teaching as an intern (Mod-Severe Special Education) at Paradise Intermediate School – right as the devastating Camp Fire struck. She navigated teaching through extraordinary challenges, moving classrooms three times. She volunteered at the Holidays in Paradise event, organized by the San Jose Sharks Foundation, and helped to gather and distribute over 100 backpacks and school supplies for displaced students.
Beyond school activities, Erin has served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Leader, volunteered at the Discovery Shop and Paw Prints Thrift Boutique. She has been on numerous school boards and committees. She served as PTO secretary at Notre Dame. She also served as secretary for the CSEA Chapter 110 (Classified Employees) Union. She was called to be a eucharist minister at St. John’s and Our Divine Savior and a greeter at Chico Community Church. She has been married to her husband, Rick, for 32 years and together they have three wonderful children.
