Contributions Throughout the Years

Without your generous donations, we would not have been able to give over $168,000 in grants and scholarships over the past 16 years. We have also formed an Endowment account of over $350,000 towards future grants and scholarships. If you wish to donate to PV Classrooms, click on the “Donations & Tickets.” You may also consider purchasing a tile for our Legacy Wall… also by using the Donations & Tickets button. Thank you so much for your consideration.

New Classrooms Added

The nearly 18-month long construction project at PV resulted in some of the most advanced high school classrooms in the nation. The old Administration building was completely gutted to make room for a college-level set of classrooms and labs for the expanding Sports Medicine / Physical therapy / Health Technology programs. Labs include hospital and PT beds and dummies to be used in all phases of training. The new Industrial Arts/Technology building upgrades the old into the 21st century and is the center for a new FFA club that has won many awards statewide, and most during its first year! The new Valhalla houses a kitchen Guy Fieri would love to have and a Café enjoyed by students as both a place to buy food and/or hang out at one of many tables. At the front of the building is a multi-use room, the new Valhalla, where students can get and eat meals, perform, or watch TV from any number of TVs in the room.
As many of you know, there was a fire in the “D” building last spring. It was essentially gutted, on the inside. The foundation held an emergency Grant period and raised just over $8,000 to help the classrooms get restarted into portables. Yes, insurance helped tremendously, but not everything lost to the fire was covered. It is help like this that makes your foundation proud.

The Foundation allocates funds according to the wishes of the donors. For instance, you may designate a specific program or activity with your donation, or you may make a donation in honor or memory of a loved one or teacher. Both General Funds and Honor/Memory funds ultimately go toward grant opportunities for teachers to develop enrichment programs and provide additional instructional materials. These are projects that benefit all the students and truly develop the environment for a positive high school experience.

Students and Staff! Grants provided by the Foundation enhance the growth and development of all of our students. These grants are provided to teachers and staff for educational activities that directly engage students both inside and outside the classroom setting. Your donations provide money for such things as field trips, classroom materials, sports equipment and support facilities improvements, such as the library, health department, and others.  All of these add to each student’s learning environment and experience.

The Foundation is a separately incorporated, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Directors comprised of alumni, parents, former PV staff, a current Assistant Principal, and community leaders. The Assistant Principal is a non-voting ex officio member of the Board. They serve as an important link to staff and student leadership and keep the Foundation accountable to serving priority needs of the school. The Foundation works with Chico Unified School District as a partner in pursuing the shared mission of equity and excellence at Pleasant Valley High School.

The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of alumni, parents, former PVHS staff, a current vice-principal, and community members. The Board of Directors seeks funds and sets policy according to its bylaws.

The PVHS Foundation is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. It raises funds and allocates resources to Pleasant Valley staff and students, enriching programs both academic or vocational and extracurricular.

In general, California schools need more resources. The limit on property taxes enacted by Proposition 13 in 1978 severely decreased overall school funding. When we account for cost of living, California ranks 45th* in per-pupil funding. In order to continue to provide a well-rounded educational environment at Pleasant Valley High School, additional sources of funding to support student enrichment programs, extra-curricular activities as well as capital equipment and improvements must be raised privately through donations.
