Aaron Stewart

PVHSF Honored Patron Aaron J. Stewart, was born and raised in Chico. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and law degree from Cornell University. After graduating law school, he began his legal career in Palo Alto, CA as an associate of Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP. Aaron decided to return to his hometown to open his own law firm in 2009 focusing on Business Law and Estate Planning. Aaron is blessed to be married to his best friend, Liz, and his proudest accomplishment is being the father to their daughter, Savannah. Aaron was happy to assist the PV High School Foundation with various corporate legal matters to help them attain autonomous status as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit and continues to provide pro bono legal services to other causes and organizations.

Dorian Dodds – Class of 1992

Dr. Dorian Dodds, DDS

Dorian Dodds, Class of 1992 is a member of the Pleasant Valley High School class of ‘92. He currently owns and operates a private dental practice in Chico. After graduating from PV and attending classes at Butte and CSU, Chico, Dorian owned and operated The Donut Nook on East Ave. until returning to school to become a dentist. Dorian and his family then moved to San Francisco. Upon graduation in 2006, they returned to Chico and Dorian went to work for Nelsen Family Dentistry. He bought his own practice in 2007. He has been practicing for 17 years. While being a full-time dentist, Dorian also taught at the Univ. of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in SF. He participated as a continuing lecturer and a Key Opinion Leader with Catapult University. In 2007, Dorian became a founding member of the PVHS Foundation. Besides working on the Foundation (2 terms as President), Dorian has been a significant contributor to many community services.

Loeta (Oviedo) Robles – Class of 1992

Dr. Loeta (Oviedo) Robles DDS

Loeta (Oviedo) Robles, Class of 1992 was born in Reno, Nevada, but has called Chico her home since she was 4 years old. She attended Chico schools, graduating from Pleasant Valley High School in 1992. Upon graduation from PV High, she continued her education at CSU Chico with a transfer to UC San Francisco. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from UCSF in 1996. She then returned to Chico and worked for Dr. Barbro Beckett as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) from 1997 through 2009. 1 of 3 In 2011, Loeta decided to expand her education and enrolled in the School of Dentistry at UC San Francisco. She graduated with honors and earned her Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 2015. She also earned certificates of excellence in clinical endodontics and patient-centered care, anesthesiology, and orofacial pain. After completing her studies, Loeta, once again, returned to work in Chico. She assumed ownership of Dr. Beckett’s dental practice and has expanded her location, staff, and services. To pay it forward, Loeta is involved in numerous professional and community associations.

Dan Nugent – Class of 1986

Dan Nugent

Dan Nugent, Class of 1986 is a proud product of the Chico public school system. After a successful time in high school, Dan graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1986. Dan attended law school at the University of San Francisco. He pursued an MBA in Finance with his law studies, understanding that one day he aspired to be a business lawyer. Dan spent the first 10 years of his career in private practice following law school, working at firms in San Francisco and Los Angeles. He next fulfilled his goal of becoming a business lawyer by joining Nissan Motor Company where he oversaw commercial, patent, and products litigation. Today he is the General Counsel for Nestle USA and Zone North America. He is a member of the executive leadership teams for Nestle USA, Zone North America, and the global legal function located in Switzerland.

FAQs

Are Foundation Board of Director meetings open to the public?

Yes! We meet the thirdTuesday of every month in Golden Valley Bank’s conference room at 190 Cohasset Road, Suite 170, Chico. Meetings are from 5-6:30pm. Any change to the meeting time will be listed on our website. Visitors are always welcome.

How does the Foundation allocate funds?

The Foundation allocates funds according to the wishes of the donors. For instance, you may designate a specific program or activity with your donation, or you may make a donation in honor or memory of a loved one or teacher. Both General Funds and Honor/Memory funds ultimately go toward grant opportunities for teachers to develop enrichment programs and provide additional instructional materials. These are projects that benefit all the students and truly develop the environment for a positive high school experience.

Who benefits from PVHS Foundation Funding?

Students! Grants provided by the Foundation enhance the growth and development of all of our students. These classroom-based grants are provided to teachers for educational activities that directly engage students both inside and outside the classroom setting. Your donation provides money for such things as field trips, classroom materials, sports equipment and site improvements. All of these add to each students learning environment and experience.

What is the relationship between the PVHS Foundation and Pleasant Valley High School/Chico Unified School District?

The Foundation is a separately incorporated, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Directors comprised of alumni, parents, former PV staff, a current Assistant Principal, and community leaders. The Assistant Principal is a non-voting ex officio member of the Board. They serve as an important link to staff and student leadership and keep the Foundation accountable to serving priority needs of the school. The Foundation works with Chico Unified School District as a partner in pursuing the shared mission of equity and excellence at Pleasant Valley High School.

Who administers the Foundation?

The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of alumni, parents, former PVHS staff, a current vice-principal, and community members. The Board of Directors seeks funds and sets policy according to its bylaws.

The PVHS Foundation is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. It raises funds and allocates resources to Pleasant Valley staff and students, enriching programs both academic or vocational and extracurricular.

Why are donations needed?

In general, California schools need more resources. The limit on property taxes enacted by Proposition 13 in 1978 severely decreased overall school funding. When we account for cost of living, California ranks 45th* in per-pupil funding. In order to continue to provide a well-rounded educational environment at Pleasant Valley High School, additional sources of funding to support student enrichment programs, extra-curricular activities as well as capital equipment and improvements must be raised privately through donations.
